New Faces, New Places

Kd Reinhold Photography has been around town lately at a few local shows. Recently, we attended the Treasure Chest Show at Mid Rivers Mall. We met a lot of great people and had a great time!

This weekend we attended the South County YMCA Fall Arts and Crafts Festival. It was pretty chilly but despite the chill in the air we had a great time seeing some new faces in our booth.

On October 24th and 25th, Kd Reinhold Photography will be attending the Lindbergh High School show at Sperring Middle School. Drop by our booth for a chat with the artist and view a sampling of Kd's work.

For updates on future showings of Kd's work, please visit www.kdreinhold.com and click the calender tab.

Updates Galore

I'm back with lots of updates!

First of all, there's a new gallery on KdReinhold.com This is a gallery dedicated to my newest love, cemetery art. Yes, it may seem a little morbid but cemetery art is a very interesting subject. While most of it is all based on the same things (angels, crosses, and the like) most of it is unique in their own right. Everyone has their own take on death and remembering their loved ones and you can really see that in the art you can find in cemeteries. The art can also tells a good deal about the ethnicity of the person, for example, a Celtic Cross could mean that the person is of an Irish background. I just find it all very interesting. It has it's own place in the art world.

In other news, my boyfriend came and visited me over Christmas and as a gift he got me the Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro lens I've been craving for months. The focus on it is amazing, it's really smooth and the dial turns flawlessly. It's the most amazing lens I own and it quickly became my favorite. Thanks, Jon!
Here's an image taken with my new lens.

And just in case anyone wanted to know, there's a contest and art show coming up this Saturday at Framations in Saint Charles. It's the same one I earned an honorable mention for The Tree Stands Alone last year. This year, Beyond the Lens III is being held at Framations from January 10th to February 8th. The opening is this Saturday from 1pm to 4pm with awards being held at 2:30pm. I have three pieces in the show and I hope to see you there!

Rest in Peace?

First off, I have a website update! I've updated the Monthly Features gallery under the Featured tab. Now it's got eight new pictures from a couple of winters ago. You'll recognize them as being from the Missouri Botanical Gardens. I'll keep adding more to the gallery as I take them this winter so be sure to check back often!

Now, on to the photo update. My final for my Digital Photography class is coming up on Thursday so I've been diligently working on that the past couple of weeks. I decided to do my final project on gravestones and cemetery art. Well, while printing my photos last week, I realized that I was three photos short of the designated twelve photos needed for the portfolio book I was doing. So that meant one thing: Photo Excursion!

I headed out to an older cemetery called Forever Oak in the Kirkwood/Meacham Park area last Saturday. Now, usually, one would think of a cemetery as a peaceful resting place for those loved ones who have departed this Earth before us. Well, some of Forever Oak is very peaceful and quiet, but some of it...not so much. If you check out the shot on the left (click it to make it bigger) titled Rest in Peace? you'll notice highway traffic in the background. I mentioned the cemetery was in Kirkwood and this section of the cemetery is where the Kirkwood family is buried. You'd think that they'd want a more peaceful spot for the founders of their city. Rest in Peace, indeed.

Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland

It snowed this weekend for the first time this…autumn. Yes, that’s right, it’s still three weeks away from winter and we have snow. But that’s not so bad, it made for some nice shots at Faust Park in Chesterfield. Here’s some previews for you to enjoy!

I had more fun with textures (as usual) with some of the images. As you can see, A Snowy Autumn Day in the Park, I got crafty with Leah Profancik's papers and frames. I really like the way that turned out...considering it was my first attempt at something like that. Not bad for an amateur, eh? It's funny, sometimes I surprise myself, in good ways of course.

The fence shot I got really layer crazy and had a blast, it looks great though. I actually used the same texture layer twice and just changed the blending style for each of them. It's kind of amusing, I loved the photo when I shot it but after I uploaded it, I totally disliked it. But, of course, after all my edits, I'm back in love with this piece.

This final shot isn't my best work, but there was just something about it that I liked. There's something almost whimsical about it, I think...but it could be just me. Any input anyone else has about this shot would be much appreciated. A texture maybe? Or maybe a paper? I just don't know! I've done so many edits these past couple days with the website going live and my class projects coming up, that my eyes are going crazy and my brain is turned to mush! Please help!

Well, anyway, this post has gone on long enough and I've run out of things to say. I hope you'll all check back in the next couple of days because I'm sure I'll have something new and fun to talk about since the website is live...which I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am over! Woohoo!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Yours,
Kdr
